A new school year is just around the corner. For many this means new cloths, new look, and reuniting with old friends. But for some, ringing in a new school year comes with copious amounts of anxiety and dread.
A lot has changed since we went to school. How do I know? Because I get the opportunity to work with tweens and teens on a weekly basis.
The one thing that never seizes to amaze me is how much kids don’t want to stress out their parents. For example, if they are getting bullied online or in school, they would rather suffer in silence than tell their parents.

As parents we teach in a variety of ways. Direct teaching includes showing your kid how to put her dirty clothes in the hamper or your son how to tie his shoes. But indirect teaching is where the majority of childhood education occurs. This style happens in between the “teachable moments”. When we forget that our kids are watching.
A study revealed that we check our social media accounts, on average, 17 times per day. To some that may not seem like a lot, but add it up. At 10 minutes a check and that’s almost 3-hours of your day, gone. And for what?

Then something happens… you leave your computer desk and all hell breaks loose!
“MOM! He won’t give me my shoes!”
“DAD! I don’t have any underwear, can I be like you and skip it?”
In your own head: (bleep!) Where did I put the charger for the camera!?
“Get in the (bleep bleep) car or NO treats!”
